HLT41115 Certificate IV in Health Care

The HLT41115 Certificate IV in Health Care (Cert IV) qualification is designed to meet the needs of professionals who provide emergency response services within the mining, industrial or corporate sectors. The qualification is delivered within a replicated Industrial Medic environment at our Bassendean training centre, with simulated drills, exercises and industry specific scenarios. The minimum 80 hour clinical work placement component of the program can be achieved through St John Ambulance WA by attending shifts with Ambulance, Patient Transfer and Event Health Services teams*.Clinical Placements can also be completed at the participants workplace medical facility (subject to approval from St John Ambulance).Please note: *Participants will first need to meet the requirements and become a registered Volunteer with St John Ambulance WA.

This course is not available to international students (this includes dependants who are in Australia under the holder of the International Student Visa)

  1. Completion of the HLTSS00027 Occupational First Aid Skill Set in the past eighteen (18) months; and
  2. Completion of online pre-learning is required prior to arrival at the face-to-face session in class.

HLT41115 Certificate IV in Health Care consists of 16 units of competency.

Due to the practical nature of the face-to-face replicated work environment, the majority of the theory is delivered electronically. Enrolment should be a minimum of four weeks prior to attending the virtual workplace as there is a requirement to complete the essential pre-learning and assessment if applicable during this time. Internet access is required for a small part of the electronic learning and assessment.

Course Structure:
Online pre-learning - minimum 4 weeks prior

  • Pre reading of participant resources are required prior to attending the replicated work environment;
  • Completion of ten (10) eLearning quizzes comprising of multiple choice and true/false questions; and
  • Completion and submission of Personal Stress Management Plan.

Face to Face learning:

Days 1 - 6

  • RPL Challenge Testing for two (2) units of competency:
    • HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety; and
    • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Assessment:
    • Adult, Child and Infant.
  • Demonstration, Practice and Assessment of required skills and knowledge in the following units of competency:
    • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people;
    • HLTAAP002 Confirm physical health status;
    • HLTAMB001 Follow procedures for routine safe removal of patient;
    • HLTAMB007 Assess and deliver basic clinical care;
    • HLTAMB011 Manage a routine non-emergency scene;
    • HLTAMB012 Communicate in complex situations to support;
    • HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures;
    • HLTWHS006 Manage personal stressors in the work environment;
    • HLTAMB002 Implement safe access and egress in an emergency;
    • BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately;
    • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services;
    • HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems;
    • PUAEME005A Provide pain management; and
    • BSBFLM303 Contribute to effective workplace relationships.
  • The above units of competency will be practiced and assessed during five (5) scenarios that replicate workplace non-emergency and emergency situations.

Post Course Self Paced eLearning:

  • Project;
  • Reflective Journal; and
  • To be completed within 12 months of commencement of the face-to-face training.

Post Course Workplace Clinical Placement:

  • At least eighty (80) hours of clinical placement under clinical supervision;
  • Completion of a Workplace Log during the Workplace Clinical Placement; and
  • To be completed within 12 months of commencement of the face-to-face training.
