Edith Khangure receives Order of Australia Medal
A long-serving and highly respected St John WA community member has been named in the 2021 Queens Birthday Honours list.
Edith Khangure received the Order of Australia Medal for her service to community history.
The Australian Honours awards system recognises Australians who provide outstanding service and contribution to their chosen profession and provides the people of Australia the opportunity to say show gratitude to those making their community better.
Dr Khangure joined St John WA in 1984 as a librarian and archivist and since her retirement in 2011 has continued as a volunteer in the role.
During this time Dr Khangure has continued to work tirelessly on behalf of St John WA and the Order of St John.
She runs the museum and library impeccably, providing information upon request.
Dr Khangure also organises and motivates a tireless group of volunteers who help with the maintenance of St John WA’s museum, archival and heritage collections, and is leading the way in digitising museum, library and archival records for future generations.
Dr Khangure is assistant secretary of the St John WA Historical Society of Australia, with which she is heavily involved.
She also, during this period, has edited or authored several books on history associated with St John, all of which have been formally published.
St John WA proudly congratulates Dr Khangure on this most well-deserved recognition.
