St John WA will open its new Midland Urgent Care centre on Monday 19 April, marking the second of four new centres committed as part of a Federal Government-funded trial to deliver urgent, non-emergency care to patients who may normally go to a hospital emergency department for treatment.

The centre is part a $28 million Federal Government commitment to develop and evaluate the urgent care model, treating local patients who have sustained urgent injuries such as sprains, broken bones or cuts that need stitches or similar treatment.

Services at the Midland Urgent Care centre include GP, pathology, x-ray and plaster casting, providing extensive treatments in one convenient location. The centre will also offer general dental services commencing 17 May 2021.

St John WA Executive Director of Primary Health, Antony Smithson, said the new Midland centre will offer residents a pragmatic alternative for treating non-emergency injuries.

“Based on uptake at existing locations, we expect the new Midland centre to be very popular. Many patients in WA attend ED for minor injuries and illnesses because they don’t see any alternative,” Mr Smithson said.

“The new St John Urgent Care centre is open for extended hours, including evenings and weekends, every day of the year. For any life-threatening emergency, patients should always go straight to ED, but for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses, St John Urgent Care is here.”

The new centre will add to the existing St John WA Urgent Care network, which recently saw a new centre open in Cannington. Two additional new centres in Osborne Park and Mandurah are scheduled to open in 2022.

“This growing network of Urgent Care services will further strengthen St John WA’s commitment to supporting West Australians with their healthcare needs,” Mr Smithson said.

The new Midland clinic is located at 8 Clayton Street Midland. St John Urgent Care is open from 8am to 10pm, 365 days a year.
