St John WA Gnowangerup Sub Centre
After a delay in March 2020 due to COVID-19, St John WA officially opened the renovated sub centre and training facility in Gnowangerup in the Great Southern.
The sub centre was originally established in 1985, operating from a small shed which was then relocated to its current location on Corbett Street in 1986. In more recent years, the number of jobs and volunteers increased, and the team outgrew their current facility. St John WA Gnowangerup now has 22 local volunteers.
The new and improved sub centre and training facility now accommodates 3 ambulance bays, a fully equipped medical store, an office area to support the Community Paramedics, a first aid store room and upgraded bathroom facilities.
The facility include a generous training room that provides support for volunteer training as well as accommodating public first aid training courses.
The $450,000 renovations commenced May 2019 by building partners Randall Smith & Sons. The upgrades were funded through local fundraising, in addition to a $15,000 grant from the Great Southern Regional Development Fund.
