It’s called ‘first aid’ for a reason
Accidents and medical incidents can happen anywhere, any time. Ensuring you and your staff are prepared is a vital part of running a safe place of work.
But it’s much more than just having a first aid kit in the kitchen or a poster on the wall.
It’s about making sure your organisation, sports club, school or day care centre has systems in place to ensure a safe place of work or activity which in turn reduces risk.
Take steps to create a first aid ready workplace
- Ensure an appropriate number of staff or members are trained in first aid for the size and risk level of your organisation or group;
- Provide adequate first aid equipment, supplies and facilities and ensure that people know how to correctly use this equipment; and
- Put in place the right processes to deal with an emergency.
How do I find out more?
The First Aid Facilities and Services Code of Practice (2002) outlines the practical requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (1984) in providing adequate first aid services and facilities to mitigate the consequences of any identified risk.
Identifying a workplace’s first aid requirements is a consultative process, as requirements are likely to vary across different workplaces.
Help is at hand
St John Safe Assessments
A St John Safe Assessment helps workplaces with their first aid training, equipment, facility and procedural requirements. Our friendly team will work closely with you to identify your needs and create a bespoke first aid training and services package to help your workplace be ready to deal with a first aid emergency.
We will arrange a time with you to conduct an on-site assessment of your workplace, current facilities and setup.
Our team will compile detailed recommendations about the required setups that your workplace may need to take to be compliant and ready to respond in an emergency.
Our consultants will work with you to implement the recommended changes. Upon implementing these changes, your workplace may then be considered St John Safe and you will be given a certificate to recognise your endorsement by St John WA.
