Order of St John

St John Ambulance Western Australia is sponsored by the Order of St John.
The Order of St John is an Order of Chivalry under the Crown. This means that it was set up by a Royal Charter under the Authority of Queen Victoria during 1888, with a structure similar to other Royal Orders of Chivalry. These Orders are designed to recognise outstanding service - usually but not necessarily voluntary service to the community.
Members of the Order are nominated by their peers. This is by people who feel that the nominee has contributed over and above what is normally expected, usually over a long period of time. Nomination forms are sent out each year and are available to all St John Ambulance WA staff and volunteers.
